I Went On A Search For Waterfalls In Manhattan
And guess what? I found some! Who would have thought?
In the middle of New York’s urban jungle, a waterfall! This one is in Greenacre Park It’s located on E. 51st St between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. This respite, surrounded by skyscrapers and a bustling neighborhood, was opened in 1971 by the Greenacre Foundation which continues to maintain and operate it to this day.
The remaining waterfalls are located at the north end of Central Park. The atmosphere is completely different - by design. It’s in an area known as The Ravine located in the North Woods. The area spans 40 acres and sports five waterfalls!
The idea was to give New Yorkers who couldn’t afford to escape to the Catskills or the Adirondacks to have a place where they can feel as if they had.
Young lovers pause for a romantic interlude in the park.
