Perth Amboy, on the Raritan Bay, just across the water from Staten Island, was once the capital of New Jersey. Founded in 1683, it boasts a wonderful waterfront and marina, which of course, attracted me and my camera lens.
As anyone who knows me knows, I love working boats. Whether a wooden fishing boat or a fire or a police boat. Working boats have real character.
This isn’t such an unusual sight these days. A boat sporting a Trump flag. Coincidentally, I was listening to Trump’s first campaign trail speech since the assassination attempt and the convention, in Michigan, while driving to Perth Amboy.
Not far from the marina is an historic neighborhood with a town square park in the middle of a roundabout across from city hall. It’s lined with churches and well maintained houses and lawns, like these.
Like the boats, I like how these homes, which are each unique, maintain their own character. And the way people maintain them so well adds to the value of the city.
Perth Amboy, a city of over 55,000 people, was for years, until now, just a stop on the train line on my commute to and from work. Sometimes, I think, it’s fun to get off the train once-in-awhile before reaching one’s destination and check the area out.
