I like that people are taking their destinies into their own hands and aren’t relying on the government to provide. The community aspect what they are doing is laudable as well.

Terrific observation Mark and you're right. Sometimes when we come together on one issue of common interest it leads to greater understanding across the board. God know we need more of this in our world today!

It's great to see communities getting together and doing something positive and productive with land that would otherwise support a lot of weeds (and mattresses). Community gardens can be a terrific place for people to meet others in their neighbourhood who they might not otherwise talk to. A common interest in gardening, and the need to tend it, is enough the get conversations started. Once people start talking about a shared project, they are likely to find common ground on a range of other issues. There's an amazing community garden in north Dunedin here in New Zealand that is a hub of activity. It's a wonderful place to visit and help out. And you get go home with fresh vegetables.
