My family is from the Ironbound section of Newark - also known as Down Neck. If you look at a map of Newark, this makes sense. The Ironbound was largely German, Polish, Hungarian and Slovak for many decades. I'm surprised you didn't get a shot of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church on Barbara Street. Nice work.
I saw the Catholic Church but it was how the lines of the street lead to the other church that caught my eye and prompted me to snap that shot? Do you visit the Ironbound much Steve? I’m impressed about how it has retained its character.
I don’t go back often now that the last of my older relatives is gone. All of their children - my cousins - moved out a while ago. The Cubans and Portuguese began moving in during the 60s and 70s and they have taken very good care of the neighborhood.
Great pictures
Thank you Allen.
